The Art of Navigating a Dance Career

Flavourama Academy is a new educational platform that provides a space for learning, professional development, artistic exchange, and knowledge-sharing, led by Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer.

Olivia and Farah, co-founders of Potpourri Dance and leaders of the internationally renowned Flavourama Festival, have been shaping the dance scene since 2006. Based in Salzburg and Vienna, they run an association dedicated to community-building and cultural exchange. Their work focuses on bringing street and club dance styles into a wide variety of spaces and contexts, building bridges between different art forms and social environments.

As full-time dancers and choreographers, they have performed across Europe, the US, Asia and beyond – collaborating with diverse companies while also creating their own dance theatre productions, including 4 A.M., Friend.shift or VAKUUM.

Since 2009, they have been the driving force behind Flavourama, one of Europe’s leading Hip Hop and House Dance festivals. As autodidact dancers and curators, with a strong community and a clear vision, they have built an international network of artists who gather in Austria each year to celebrate Hip Hop and House Dance culture.

Their personal artistic journeys and the evolution of the global dance scene have shaped their work and their vision over the last 20 years. With their 2-day intensive workshop The Art of Navigating a Dance Career by Flavourama Academy at Tanzquartier Wien, Olivia and Farah invite you to dive into both their artistic and entrepreneurial worlds:

DAY 1: Their roles as dancers and creatives – sharing insights into their artistic practice, work ethic, and passion for dance as a pure and political art form.

DAY 2: Building something from scratch – what it takes to grow a festival, sustain a community, and navigate the challenges of creating in today’s dance world.

DAY 3: Experience Flavourama Europe Qualifier at Tanzquartier Wien (entrance included in the Academy fee) – gain insight into how an international festival is brought to life, experience the atmosphere up close and discover the dynamics of a global dance community gathering in Vienna.

On Friday, February 13th from 6:00-8:00 PM, the Flavourama Academy will be followed by an open training session, free of charge and open to everybody.
