PERFORMATORY
OPEN CALL FOR STREET & CLUB DANCERS
In Austria’s theater landscape, classical and contemporary dance, as well as music, often take center stage. Recognizing this, artistic directors Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer see it as their responsibility to support professional artists from street and club cultures by providing them with a platform to increase their visibility. This mission drives the creation of Flavourama Performatory, now in its fifth edition.
For this year’s edition at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Flavourama Performatory takes place within the context of the current exhibition BASELITZ JETZT, featuring works by Georg Baselitz. The exhibition engages with themes of fragility, aging, and the human condition – offering a space to reflect on vulnerability, physicality, and transformation. At the same time, Baselitz’s public statements – particularly those criticized as anti-feminist and exclusionary toward women in art – have been widely discussed. As Flavourama, we value transparency and see this context as an invitation to engage critically and thoughtfully with the works and their broader implications, including questions of representation, power, and whose voices are made visible within institutional spaces.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
For the Performatory on August 27, 2026, we are seeking street and club dancers (Hip Hop, House, Popping, Locking, Waacking, Voguing, Breaking, and related styles). This Open Call is aimed at artists who are eager to explore their performative skills and push creative boundaries.
Selected artists will take part in a performance walk at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, bringing street and club dance into new artistic contexts and fostering connections with other art forms.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
The groups will receive a curator-led tour of the exhibition, using it as a starting point and source of inspiration. Participants are encouraged to engage with themes such as fragility, physical limits, and transformation, as well as to reflect on how different artistic perspectives meet within institutional spaces.
Each duo/trio will then have approximately three hours to create a 10-minute interdisciplinary performance, drawing inspiration from one specific artwork. Throughout this process, Flavourama’s artistic directors, Farah Deen and Olivia Mitterhuemer, will act as Outside Eyes, offering guidance on choreography and improvisation.
The performances will take place during three performance walks in the evening within the exhibition, directly engaging with the selected artworks. A host will guide the audience through the exhibition, where the performances will unfold in a pop-up format, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
No limits are set on the performative playground – we are excited to see how this year’s Flavourama Performatory will unfold.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
➔ Each artist will receive a remuneration of 200€ for 3 short pop-up performances
➔ The event will be covered on our social media channels.
➔ Travel and accommodation costs cannot be covered by the festival
➔ Basic English is required
